2011 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All are highly capable trucks, even those loaded with luxury features. The f-150 was completely redesigned for 2009. For 2011, ford f-150 features an entirely new engine lineup, and most 2011 f-150 models come with electric-assist steering. smooth and quiet, the f-150 is comfortable on bumpy streets around town, over rugged terrain like construction sites, farms and utility roads, and on the open highway. Its steering is nicely weighted and requires little correction on the highway making it nice for long cross-country tows. Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required and keeps overhead down. with one of the deepest beds in the segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,060 pounds; most versions carry 1,600-2,100 pounds. Any cab model f-150 can be optioned to tow more than 11,000 pounds; the range varies from 5,500-11,300 pounds. (the ford super duty line of heavy-duty pickups is covered in a separate new car test drive review.) two v8 and two v6 engines are offered, all with six-speed automatic transmissions. Standard on 2wd is a 302-hp 3. 7-liter v6. Other choices include a 360-hp 5-liter v8 for all cab/bed configurations, a 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8 on supercrew short beds, and a 365-hp twin-turbo 3. 5-liter v6 on all but regular cab/short beds. Several axle ratios are offered with each engine. a new 2011 f-150 xlt custom package slots between xlt and fx models. On the upper end are the king ranch, platinum and lariat limited models. The harley-davidson edition returns for 2011 with a 411-hp v8, the same engine now standard on the serious off-road raptor. Supercab trucks add higher fx and lariat trim to choices plus svt's raptor, and a short-bed option (about 5. 5 feet). A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty package. The supercrew f-150, available with either the short bed or standard bed, drops the stx grade and adds king ranch and platinum derivatives while harley-davidson and lariat limited are supercrew short bed only. the f-150 xl (starting at $22,415) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. It comes with 3. 7-liter v6, 17-inch steel wheels, black bumper/grille/mirrors, and vinyl upholstery and floor covering. More equipment is available, including 18-inch wheels, sirius radio, sync, cruise control, fog lamps and power mirrors. f-150 xlt (from $26,685) adds chrome for bumpers and trim, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, carpeting, cruise control, power windows and locks, and better cloth upholstery. All manner of options are available on the xlt, including three wheel diameters, tailgate step, cargo management and towing equipment. f-150 fx4 and fx2 come with a 5-liter v8, black grille and body-colored bumpers, trim and mirrors. Options include infotainment and 17-inch (for more severe off-road use) or 20-inch wheels. Chrome trim and bumpers highlight monotone paint, and the lariat adds heated mirrors with signal repeaters and auto-dimming on the driver's and inside, dual-zone climate control, heated power leather seats with driver memory, leather wheel with redundant audio controls, tow package, sync, trip computer, and power adjustable pedals. Options include 20-inch wheels, heated/cooled front seats, sony sound and navigation, trailer brake controller, rear camera and park sensors, and moonroof. f-150 king ranch (from $41,790) is like a lariat with a different attitude. It adds two-tone paint and kr badges, unique wheels, mesh chrome grille, chaparral leather heated and cooled power captain's chairs with driver memory, running boards, and power folding, heated, signal outside mirrors with chrome caps. Options are essentially limited to a limited-slip differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start. f-150 platinum supercrew (from $43,600) gets a unique satin chrome grille, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captain's chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power folding/heated mirrors, and unique console. It comes only with the 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, and many features are standard on more expensive models. In addition, prices of options occasionally vary by trim level. mechanical options include engine upgrades, alternate axle ratios, limited-slip or locking differentials, larger tires and upgraded wheels, skid plates, towing mirrors, snow plow prep (with 6. 2 v8), trailer brake controller 230), 36-gallon long-bed fuel tank, tailgate step, heavy-duty payload package, and ford works systems like an in-dash computer. Other upgrades include captain's chairs bucket seats with center console, power sliding rear window, rear-view camera (with or without navigation) reverse parking sensors, tri-coat or two-tone paint, moonroof 995), sirius radio, sound systems, remote start, and navigation. safety features that come standard include antilock brakes, stability control (advancetrac rsc), trailer sway control, frontal airbags, front side airbags, and side curtain airbags. Safety-related options include an integrated trailer brake controller, rear-view camera, mykey, and reverse park sensors. walkaroundthe angular lines of the ford f-150 mean it's easier to clean, easier to park, and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. Some bulge to the hood and large grille openings imply power, as does the higher altitude of 4wd models; many models have big graphics to ensure everyone knows what it is. The view rearward can be aided by extendable towing mirrors, a rear camera, and a power sliding rear window. We found the towing mirrors work very well. pillars between the doors (called b-pillars) and the rear hand-hold on the pillar may yield an awkward blind spot for some drivers, but everyone should appreciate the windshield pillars (called a-pillars) shaped to help preserve forward vision.

2005 ford five hundred review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Ford's magic new number. introductionthe five hundred is ford's interpretation of the modern american sedan. But ford's new flagship is larger and more substantial and comes with much more standard equipment. the five hundred boasts a body structure and safety technology developed by volvo and first used on volvo's s80 luxury sedan and then for its highly acclaimed xc90 sport utility vehicle. Ford acquired the swedish automaker famous for its passenger-protecting innovations in 1999. When it came time to develop the five hundred (and its upscale cousin, the mercury montego), ford imported volvo's best structural and safety engineers to work on the project. The five hundred is available with a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the latter giving it more stable handling and better traction, particularly in inclement weather. ford developed the five hundred as a successor to the taurus and to compete with cars such as the brand new chrysler 300, the venerable toyota avalon, and the aging chevrolet impala. The driver sits relatively high, and the roomy front seats offer a commanding view of the road. Back-seat passengers will not complain about being cramped, either. The back seats fold down to increase cargo capacity. The six-speed automatic transmission that comes standard helps the engine deliver responsive performance and good fuel economy. All-wheel-drive models come with a continually variable transmission that performs the same feat. lineupthe ford five hundred is available in three trim levels: se, sel, and limited. each is powered by a 3. 0-liter v6 called the duratec 30, which is tuned to provide 203 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque. That power flows through either of two very effective transmissions. Also available are a safety and security package for the se with side and canopy airbags, anti-theft perimeter alarm and lights and a safety package for the sel and limited with the side and canopy airbags. walkaroundford first used the five hundred designation in numerical form on the highest trim version of its 1957 fairlane model and the car helped ford overtake chevrolet in the sales race. When ford launched a new flagship, the galaxie, in 1959, it again used the '500' badge to indicate the most upscale version. It also rides on a wheelbase that is 4. 5 inches longer, which not only gives the car its solid, luxury-car stance but enhances smooth ride quality. the chief designer says it was a challenge to sculpt a ford-styled body around a volvo chassis, and adds that designers used what he calls 'plainer surfaces with taut lines' to give the car a modern look without losing its passenger car proportions. The five hundred's rounded forms offer a definite alternative to the more upright, angular chrysler 300. the five hundred's face has large, jewel-styled and multi-bulb triangular headlight elements on either side of a wide, trapezoidal grille. Chrome accents the front edges of the bumper. There are similar chrome accents on the rear bumper and another that bisects the doors and provides a visual bridge between slightly flared wheel arches. Chrome also frames the side windows, which include large third windows that give the five hundred more of a luxury car profile. the tall trunk lid has a spoiler-like lip along its top trailing edge. Those who need even more space for people and cargo can opt for the freestyle, a crossover wagon based on the five hundred. Those who want a smaller and less expensive vehicle will next year be able to get the fusion, another mid-size sedan that's smaller than the taurus. interioralthough the 2005 ford five hundred's exterior is a foot shorter than the full-size ford crown victoria sedan, the new car has nearly as much passenger room (107. 1 cubic feet for the five hundred vs. 108. 2 for the crown vic). The five hundred also has a larger trunk (21. 1 cu. The center stack has audio controls at the top with climate and other controls beneath. The dashboard has either silver or wood-grain trim with metal used for the door releases and around the base and top of the gear shift lever. We found the switchgear well designed and easy to use. one cautionary note (well, actually two of them): a steeply raked windshield can reflect a lot of glare off the top of the dashboard (at least it did in the car we drove with a tan-colored 'pebble' interior; 'shale' and 'black' interiors also are available), and a driver wearing sunglasses can have trouble reading the darkly colored gauges in the se and sel models. Both engines provide adequate power and fuel economy though they are outperformed by the engines offered by several competitors. fusion's ride quality is as good as any car in the class, save perhaps the toyota camry. Available all-wheel drive and a new sport package make fine handling even better. the cabin is comfortable and well designed with controls that are intuitive and easy to operate. An optional sport appearance package comes with a firmer suspension and sporty interior and exterior styling cues. Antilock brakes and a tire-pressure monitor are now standard, while rear obstacle detection becomes an option. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, a five-speed automatic transmission is optional 875). Also new for 2008 are ford sync entertainment and communications system 395) and ambient lighting 295), which illuminates the front cupholders and front and rear footwells and is offered in seven colors. safety features on all models include dual-stage front airbags; seat-mounted, torso-protecting front side airbags; side curtain airbags for head protection in both rows; tire-pressure monitor; latch child-seat anchors; rear-door child-safety locks. Abs comes standard on all 2008 fusion models. Traction control is standard on all-wheel-drive models, optional on se and sel front-drive models 95). Rear obstacle detection is optional 295). walkaroundthe ford fusion has presence, unusual among midsize sedans that tend to blend in to the scenery. Some people, including us, like the aggressive, angular look of the fusion, some don't. We'd like to note that polarizing designs are often more successful than bland designs that neither offend nor excite anyone. In short, we think this is a good-looking car. the styling features large headlights and a bold grille. Three thick chrome bars across the grille have a razor-like appearance and make the car look more upmarket than its pricing might suggest. The front bumper almost disappears as there are two chrome strips below it that match the ones on the grille. when the fusion was first introduced, ford executives said its three-bar horizontal grille would become the signature styling cue for ford cars. Since then it has been seen on concept vehicles, as well as the edge crossover vehicle and the new taurus and newly restyled focus. A fold along the top edges of the front fenders runs all the way back along the edge of the roof to the rear deck. the fusion features a wide track, which makes it stand out on the freeway when viewed from behind. A high trunk line and large triangular taillight clusters with chrome trim give the rear end a classy look. the overall effect is pleasing. The chrome on the car contrasts nicely with the body work, especially on dark-colored models or red. Gaps between body panels seem a bit larger than those on some of the other cars in the class. all-wheel-drive models have awd badging on the rear deck. While the 17-inch wheels that drive the awd sel models are the same design, they have a tell-tale hash mark to identify all-wheel-drive models. the sport appearance package features a black chrome grille, color-keyed fog lights, a unique rear spoiler, chrome exhaust tips, and most notably, 18-inch aluminum wheels on lower profile tires. the fusion fits into the ford car lineup between the compact focus and the big taurus sedan. It has much the same dimensions as its competitors. Although the fusion shares its basic floorpan with the mazda6, its wheelbase is two inches longer and it is an inch or so wider. Ford also says fusion has a stiffer bodyshell than the mazda6, which is good because a rigid structure is the key to a smooth ride and responsive handling. interiorthe cabin of the ford fusion is comfortable and benefits from straightforward controls. the front seats manage to be slightly soft, yet supportive enough for long drives. A standard tilt and telescoping steering wheel and the six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, standard on the se and sel models, helps drivers get comfortable, be they short or tall. in keeping with its european influence, ford has chosen to go with the soft touch for surface materials, which is expected in a luxury car but not in a mass-market car. The car we drove had a dark charcoal interior so everything was finished in black. The optional two-tone interior, especially the dark stone and camel with faux wood trim looks more inviting. The lighter colored interiors look friendlier. the dashboard is a straightforward design that runs horizontally across the car's width with just a binnacle above the instrument pod. Decent-sized buttons make the radio and climate controls easy to operate. The center console, door pockets, and front seatback pockets provide additional storage. se and sel models have a front passenger seatback that folds down, making it possible to haul extra-long items. Heated front seats are an option on sel models with leather seating. Fusions equipped with the new sport appearance package have red seat inserts (cloth or leather) and red stitching on the seats, steering wheel and center console. the new sync communications and entertainment system can recognize bluetooth-enabled cell phones, access their phonebooks, and play calls and read text messages through the speakers. It also has a usb interface to connect with ipods and other mp3 players. Voice commands and/or steering wheel buttons can be used to control all functions. Head and leg room measurements don't put the fusion at the top of its class, but the back seat feels roomier than the numbers suggest. the fusion has a good-size trunk with a flat floor and low lift-over height, making it easy to load groceries, luggage or cargo. All fusion models include a 60/40 split rear seatback, which allow.
